NOTES: The Bright and Hollow Sky begins with a strange band of instruments weaving a march over a sparkling though unbalanced rhythm. As the layers become more complex, time slows and even stops to allow the listener zoom in and out of the dense sound combination that is created. The microphones on the instruments become microscopes to examine the crystalline structure of sound, and the lines between acoustic phenomena and live electronic processing are blurred. As the piece reaches it's climax, sound, rhythm, tone and timbre collide and are diffused, scattering like stars. The Bright and Hollow Sky was commissioned by the International Contemporary Ensemble, and it was underwritten by the American Composers Forum with funds provided by the Jerome Foundation. - from a note by Joshua Rubin
